Booster Shots Should be Optional for CSU Students

Booster Shots Should be Optional for CSU Students
The Issue
The growing number of covid cases and new variants such as the Omni-variant has caused decision-makers to require students and staff of California State University to receive the booster shot. While Covid-19 has affected many families and many have fallen to the harsh effect of the virus, requiring a third dose of the vaccine should be a personal decision and not a requirement.
The covid vaccine is a great tool to use for those who fall vulnerable to its effects. However, students who are in good health and feel that they do not have comorbidities should not be required to receive a vaccine for a virus that they are not being affected by. At the start of the school year, students cooperated to the covid vaccine requirement yet, the CSU is insisting students receive another dose of the vaccine. Students and staff have already done their part to prevent covid from spreading on campus and requiring students to receive yet another dose of the vaccine is morally wrong and should be the choice of the person who is receiving the vaccine.
Covid-19 has evolved and will continue to grow and change over time. The vaccine is there for those who are more vulnerable to the effects of covid and requiring all students to receive the booster is not necessary. Students have received the vaccine, worn masks, and socially distanced to prevent the spread and these steps in prevention have worked for many. Continuously requiring boosters to a virus should be a personal choice made by the person receiving the vaccine and not a requirement to attend school. Most students on campus are vaccinated and we should not be forced to partake in the vaccine if they feel that they already have taken the necessary steps to prevent infection.
