Dear Supporters, It's September 12th.  I have been away for a couple of weeks making contact with CalTrans employees in two districts of our state.  I've talked with District employees in Inyo and Mono counties both have similar response to our petition.  Both of these counties cover many miles of highways along the Eastern Sierra byway.  However, it does not seem that cats or dogs appear to be a large count of animal victims.  Deer fall as a primary victim with small wild animals such as skunks, rabbits, and raccoons.  It is sad that any animal meets it's demise on a man made roadway.  However, this example shows that CalTrans does not have to buy universal scanners for every vehicle in California.  Only those areas where large numbers of house pets, primarily dogs and cats, are killed on highways and freeways.  With some number crunching CalTrans could focus on those Districts with the greatest number of domestic pets killed on highways and freeways and provide scanners for those employees.  It only take a bit of time and effort to gather this information.  We are still waiting for a CalTrans response to the meeting of August 16th. It may take a month or more before big organizations respond.  PLEASE BE PATIENT. Thank you for your continued support.
