Dear Supporters, It's October 4. It has been a long wait for CalTrans and the DOT officials to respond to our request from the meeting on August 16. Today I am sending an email to the CEO of California Animal Welfare Association in hopes that there has been some indication that the DOT is going forward with this petition. I have been out most of the summer interviewing CalTrans employees, and collecting petition signatures. As mentioned in a previous update, for many areas in our state CalTrans would not need to purchase large numbers of universal scanners. Some of California's biggest counties Mono and Inyo have very few pets killed on highways. In some other counties local animal services scans for microchips in cats or dogs killed on highways. The cost factor for the DOT in purchasing universal scanners may be minimal in many Cal Trans Districts. I will keep you informed of any information I receive from Sacrmento. Please continue to support this petition.
