Dear Supporters, It's August 21st and I have some good news to share.  On August 16th I received an email from the CEO of California Animal Welfare Association.  This is a nonprofit organization promoting excellence in animal care, sheltering, and law enforcement since 1909.  On August 16th members of CAWA met with the DOT (Department of Transportation) and the standout sentences of the email stated, "They were very nice and understanding about this request" (the petition). "In recognizing that they (DOT) are handling these animals anyway, often doing roadside disposal, we asked that they scan for a chip and make a call to the owner."  "They recognized the value in this and said they will explore the idea and look into the costs and logistics of getting scanners into the maintenance workers' vehicles.  They have a lot on their plate right now and did not make any promises though."  Supporters, this is a very positive move forward. Thank you for your signatures and keep telling people that this can happen.  CalTrans can scan for microchips in our pets found on our highways.
