Last night’s BOE meeting

Hello again-
Just wanted to give you guys another update. Last night I presented our case to Dr. Hill and the Board of Education at their monthly meeting. I was pleased to discover that there were several other people there who share our concerns and addressed the board about them as well. A couple of them were even students, who I must say were far more articulate and persuasive than I was! Ha ha!
In any case, it was encouraging to see some of Burbank’s best and brightest advocating so powerfully for themselves and our shared cause in a public forum. Inspiring stuff!
Judging by some of the comments made by the board members later in the evening I do feel that they are truly hearing our concerns and taking them into consideration as they weigh what next move to make. Dr. Hill even admitted at one point that the survey numbers in favor of the hybrid option were likely “inflated” because the alternative, ILA, was so unappealing to most families.
I’m sure the fact that the infection rate is going in the wrong direction right now also played a role in their openness to considering other options. And while they did not commit to much, I am confident that our message is being heard loud and clear.
On that note I did find Steve Ferguson to be a little more open and sympathetic to our cause. So, if you feel the need to email someone, he might be a great place to start. Ferguson seemed to genuinely feel for the stress the horrible survey options placed on Burbank families, which I really appreciated. As I think I mentioned in my last update, he was also the only board member to respond to my previous email. So, good on him! Ferguson’s email is: steveferguson@burbankusd.org
I’ll update you again if I have any news. But for now, thanks for your continued support and keep on keeping on!
Talk soon-
