Request to consider providing school bus service for Peel school students in grades 11 and 12 RLCP programs. Transportation is provided to RLCP grades 6 to 10, but the ministry refused the board's same proposal for grades 11 and 12. This situation is creating a stressful situation for the students and their families.

Currently, BustoSchool has canceled bus services as they do not get enough ridership. Affected RLCP students have to rely on public transportation, with one-way travel times often over an hour. This creates significant challenges for both students and their parents.

Long commutes on public transit can be physically and mentally exhausting for students, especially during winter or when transit delays occur. Students often have to make multiple transfers, increasing the risk of arriving late to school or returning home much later in the day. The lengthy commute also reduces the time available for studying, extracurricular activities, and adequate rest, all of which are important for academic success and overall well-being.

For parents, the lack of transportation creates additional stress and logistical difficulties. Many parents are concerned about the safety of their children traveling alone on public transit, particularly during early morning or evening hours. Some families adjust their work schedules or drive their children to school when possible, which is not feasible for everyone and can create financial and time burdens.

The RLCP program is an excellent educational opportunity, and transportation should not become a barrier for students who wish to participate. Providing school bus service for Grade 11 and 12 RLCP students would improve accessibility, enhance student safety, reduce commuting stress, and help ensure that all students have an equal opportunity to benefit from the program.
