BURY THE LIES: OPPOSITION TO DATA CENTER in Union City, GA.

BURY THE LIES: OPPOSITION TO DATA CENTER in Union City, GA.
The Issue
South Fulton residents stand against these deliberately cloaked processes currently at play in bringing data centers in proximity to residential areas. The local government of Union City has given a green light to rezoning land near the intersection of Buffington Rd. and Jonesboro Rd./Hwy. 138 for the construction of a data center. This data center will be within walking distance of one of our most vulnerable populations, our senior citizens.
In recent years, communities have been blindsided by news of the rapid development of data centers in proximity to residential areas. What should be a transparent and democratic process is instead shrouded in secrecy, leaving residents feeling alienated and powerless in decisions that directly impact their health, safety, and quality of life. As concerned residents, we find it deeply troubling that the locations and processes are not being openly communicated to those most affected—our families.
While data centers are essential for technological advancement, their presence near homes raises significant concerns. Data centers demand vast amounts of energy and resources, which can lead to increased noise pollution, water contamination risks, and potential negative impacts on property values. We need to look no further than our neighboring city, Fayetteville, to see a once-desired bedroom community now ravaged by towering power transmission poles. What we are asking for is quite simple: transparency and a thorough evaluation of potential locations, ensuring that residential areas are protected under current and future planning policies. By involving citizens in these pivotal decisions, we can safeguard our neighborhoods and ensure that technological progress does not come at the expense of the community's well-being.
Join us in taking this vital step. Sign this petition and help us halt the current construction plans in favor of a fair and inclusive review process.
