Stop Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs from sending bomb-sniffing dogs to Jordan to be abused

The Issue

An article in the WashingtonPost exposed the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs to the senseless shipment of trained bomb-sniffing dogs to Jordan to be mistreated and starved. The bureau knew this was happening and continued to send these dogs to their deaths. Photos of starved and sick dogs were in the article. The dogs were kept in feces laden kennels. Each of these dogs cost approximately $25,000 to buy and train. Hundreds were sent and hundreds died from starvation and mistreatment. Not only was this an egregious case of animal cruelty, but an egregious case of the waste of taxpayer money. The American people are paying for this travesty. Animals cannot speak for themselves, someone has to speak for them. We must stop this travesty. the only way this can happen is for enough people to speak out. The telephone numbers of this organization are as follows. (202) 647-7215 or (202) 647-7216 Please call or write to the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs. You can also write or email to the Jordanian Embassy in Washington, DC. I left an email message for them, but so far haven't had a reply. Jordan doesn't need our help with this. They are quite capable of funding their own dogs. And if they pay for them, then they would be considered valuable property and hopefully be taken care of properly. All animal lovers should be appalled that our State Department funded this kind of tragedy. Let your voices be heard. Barb Villemez
