The fresh advice we received from Animal Defenders Office around legality of selling glue traps, and our petition, made it to the news! Bunnings claims that it has no evidence that their insect traps are capable of trapping an animal.
We know that's not true - I need your help. Please share any evidence you have of insect traps catching animals, especially in Victoria, by messaging me on Facebook, so we can legally challenge the retail giant. You can also email me the photos and details at catcoake@gmail.com.
Don't forget to share the following details along with the pictures:
Where: (state)
When: (date of the capture)
Glue trap brand and type
Is the glue trap sold in Bunnings?
Details of the caught animal
Bunnings general manager of merchandise, Adrian Pearce, said “We are satisfied that the products we sell in this category are compliant with the relevant legislation in Victoria when used in line with their intended purpose.”
We know this is false. Everyday there are cases of pets or wild lizards, possums and rats getting stuck to insect glue traps but these cases aren’t being reported. We just need one Victorian case to demonstrate the legal implications of selling these glue traps on Bunnings.
Despite all the evidence and legal advice, Bunnings continues to defend its choice of selling the cruel product. This is why we need evidence of animals being trapped in insect glue traps, especially in Victoria.
Please message me on Facebook or send me an email if you have any evidence or photos of animals being trapped in insect glue traps.
I am extremely disappointed with Bunnings and their response. It is a simple ask to remove a product that is causing pain, injuries and even deaths of so many innocent animals. They are failing to live up to community standards of animal welfare.
But I know people power is more powerful than the giant retailer and with 90,000 of us committed to bringing change, I’m sure we will help bring about this change that could save the lives of countless animals.
Thank you
