I’ve received legal advice from the Animal Defenders Office, a national legal centre, that it is likely unlawful to sell glue traps in Victoria and specifically the sale of the “The Buzz Indoor Insect Glue Traps” is likely NOT permitted. I’ve shared this advice with Bunnings and am waiting for their response - can you help amplify this update?

The ADO has shared fresh legal advice that “It is arguable that it is unlawful to sell a glue trap that is capable of trapping a vertebrate, regardless of whether the trap is intended to trap a vertebrate.
Given the large amount of evidence demonstrating that ‘insect’ glue traps can and do trap vertebrates, it could be argued that the sale of such glue traps in Victoria constitutes an offence.”
Specifically, the report mentioned that “it is likely that the sale of ‘The Buzz Indoor Insect Glue Traps’ is not permitted, if evidence is provided that these specific traps are capable of trapping vertebrates."

ADO’s legal advice also clarified that the sale of glue traps in ACT would likely be an offence too since possessing them is illegal there.
Nearly 90,000 of us are calling on Bunnings to ban cruel glue traps - I’m so grateful for your support. I believe that slowly but surely we will get to the retail giant and force them to adopt animal welfare standards that our pets and native wildlife deserve.
Thank you
PS - I want to thank all the 850 Queenslanders who responded to my calls and objected the QLD animal cruelty legislation review. While the government has continued with what they proposed, I’m overjoyed that so many of you took the time to make the submission. Now, we can advocate for better, comprehensive laws and not just paltry amendments.
