Bungie Appeals/Bans

Bungie Appeals/Bans

The Issue

This petition is to call to light Bungie's appeals process that they just opened up for Destiny 2 which isn't giving everyone the same chance.

They started taking appeals ONLY RECENTLY because when the game went free to play on Steam they started cracking down and banning people that they deemed cheating to gain an unfair advantage which caused a lot of people to be banned. This is all well and good if one can assume that they are banning people who are abusing cheats, hacking, and DDOSing other players for either an unfair advantage in PvP or in general to try and take the top place. That same subsection of people get restrictions and warnings before they're permanently banned.

This does not take into account people who block their own ports to play the game at their own pace when they don't have others to play with. People who block their own ports on PC are doing so to achieve the same effect as console users who change their console time to offset it from the server to load in by themselves to play at their own pace. Port blocking goes against the ToS (Network Manipulation) yes, but so does hacking the network and DDOSing. Blocking one's own ports is manipulation of their own network and not other user's networks so therefore it is not as severe, HOWEVER it is treated as worse than hacking the game's network connection AND DDOSing others. Hackers and DDOSers get 2-3 restrictions and warnings BEFORE they're banned but port blockers don't get that leniency. As soon as Bungie feels like it they ban the port blocker outright WITHOUT giving them another chance.

I was recently banned for port blocking (December, 23rd 2019) because I didn't know if I could get help or not and my friend was MIA for a while so I started blocking my own ports to do missions and bounties by myself, as if I tried to run with randoms they wouldn't listen to my requests and would just sprint off and pull me along. My friend would help me out with this kind of thing but he went offline when one of his friends died and he was in a dark place and I couldn't get a hold of him for several months. My clan at the time was of no help as they were all offline after the switch to Steam. When my friend came back he was offline at times and invited me to his clan (which was fairly active) and I didn't know what times they'd be on to help. So I continued to block my own ports (thinking nothing of it as I was doing it to achieve the same effect as console time manipulators) and got banned on a day I wasn't on. I found out the next day I was banned and wasn't given a reason as to why or even given a warning through email. Nothing, just a "This account has been banned" message. Told my clan leader and he got a hold of a former dev who had a friend still working there that told him the reason. I had tried to appeal and they gave me a response that was "Your appeal was looked at and denied. Have a nice day."

This game was one of the few games I streamed and played with friends or viewers (as it is free to play now) to work on my social anxiety as they'd bring their friends (who I did not know about beforehand) and get me used to them. Having this taken away is like a slap to the face and is damaging to quite a bit of progress that I had made.

Now anytime a person who blocked their own ports gets banned and tries to go through the new appeals process for a second chance Bungie gives them a response along the lines of, "Oh yea your punishment is suitable have a nice day," and won't even consider it. This is unfair to users as they're being blocked for just wanting to be by themselves, go at their own pace, and not have to deal with other users who may or may not be toxic.

I hope that this petition can raise enough awareness and get Bungie to change their minds and ALLOWS port blockers to have a second chance like actual cheaters/hackers/DDOSers get.
