Bullying Needs To Be Taken More Seriously

The Issue

I'm sure a lot of us have been bullied at some point in our lives. Whether it was at school, online, or in work. My story personally comes from a school in the Quincy Public School district in Massachusetts.

I am an 8th grader who attends one of the schools in this district. This entire school year, I have been bullied with my school doing nothing about it. I've gone to them countless times about it, and it's always been the same cycle of them pretending to care but at the end of the day doing nothing. I have mental health issues that have only worsened with this, and my school is aware of this. However, they've still chosen to do nothing about this.

At one point, the principal and vice principal openly admitted to me they didn't view my situation as bullying at all. That is one of the main reasons they chose to do nothing the entire year. The person who's bullying me has been treating a few others that I can recall at my school like this, however nothing ever happens to her. It's me who she's been bullying the longest though, for no apparent reason.

I am in therapy, on antidepressants, and many more things but I'll avoid going into too much detail to keep my identity private. However, the point of this petition is to get awareness to how the Quincy Public Schools District does not care about / not know how to properly handle bullying. I hope that by this petition, there can be more done to protect the victims of bullying in the future rather than excusing the behavior of perpetrators.

Here are some things that have been made by the district as well, which I personally find shocking as they don't seem to do anything for bullying.

Some other additional information I should probably add, my school refuses to address anything related to punishments they've given the girl whose bullying me. The strange thing is that they've proudly stated possible punishments with others who've been getting bullied at my school. They won't even mention potential punishments to me, which makes me believe that they only choose to talk to her at most for all of this.

My school has stated many times that we should both stay away from eachother - instead of actually trying to get her to leave me alone - and she's broken this countless times. However, when I mention this to the principal, she passes half of the blame onto me for everything.

"Why didn't you just move away from eachother?" We're in a crowded area, and she was far behind me. Why couldn't she keep her distance? And I was trying to stay away from her too.

"Well, why are you always near eachother?" I never go near her on purpose. She's the one coming near me to bother me.

"Well we don't have enough proof that this is bullying." Yes you do. You just actively choose to ignore it. Remember the time I told you she wished I would die? The time that she very clearly threatened to do more after school ended by saying "Tommorows going to be fun" as I left the building? The times she's stepped on my shoes, grabbed my hair, and pushed me? They willingly choose to ignore all the proof I've ever given them.

In December of 2023, it got to a point where relationships with me and my family were ruined. Partly because of me being bullied and other factors in my life, I ended up in the hospital because of an attempt. My school is fully aware of this, and my principal often makes refrences to "show that she cares" asking if I'm normal sad or december sad occasionally when I talk to her about this stuff.

If you sign this, thank you. I appreciate it.
