Every Life Matters. Every Voice Matters. Every Community Deserves to Be Safe.

We, the residents and supporters of safer communities, are calling on our city leaders, elected officials, transportation departments, and decision-makers to make public safety a priority before major developments and construction projects are approved and completed not after.

Growth and development can bring new opportunities to our cities, but with growth comes increased traffic, more vehicles, more pedestrians, and greater demands on roads and infrastructure. Safety improvements should be planned alongside development not added only after residents raise concerns or a tragedy occurs.

We are asking our city leaders to take proactive action by prioritizing:

- Safer roads and intersections designed for everyone who uses them.

- More controlled and clearly marked crosswalks in areas where residents, children, students, and families already cross.

- Lower and appropriate speed limits in residential areas and high-pedestrian corridors.

- Better street lighting and visibility, especially near neighborhoods, schools, parks, businesses, trails, and pedestrian crossings.

- Greater education and awareness regarding crosswalk safety, pedestrian safety, speeding, distracted driving, and sharing our roads responsibly.

- Safety and traffic infrastructure reviews before major developments are built, taking into consideration the additional traffic and pedestrian activity those developments will bring.

- Meaningful resident involvement in planning decisions. The people who live in these communities every day understand how our roads, intersections, and crossings are actually being used.

We understand that cities rely on traffic studies, engineering standards, statistics, and development plans. Those tools are important but the voices and everyday experiences of residents must also matter.

We live here.

Our children walk and ride bikes here.

Our families drive these roads every day.

We know where people are crossing, where vehicles are speeding, where lighting is inadequate, and where safety concerns already exist.

Residents should not have to wait for an accident, serious injury, or loss of life before safety improvements become a priority.

We are asking our leaders to plan ahead, listen to residents, and ensure that infrastructure keeps pace with development.

Economic growth should never come at the expense of community safety.

Build the roads safely before the traffic increases.

Build the crossings before they are desperately needed.

Improve the lighting before someone gets hurt.

Address dangerous speeds before another life is changed forever.

Every life matters.

Every resident deserves to feel safe in the community they call home.
