Building an Elevated Rail on Western Ave

Building an Elevated Rail on Western Ave
The Issue
We are proposing that the City of Chicago builds a Chicago Transit Authority elevated train line running North South primarily on Western Avenue. The northernmost point would start at north Ashbury Ave in Evanston connecting to the Yellow Line and this would travel to the southernmost point at the Wrightwood Metra Station at the intersection of Columbus Ave, Kedzie Ave and 79th Street. This proposal would be approximately 19.40 Mi long. It would connect with six different CTA Rail lines all of which run primarily east and west it would connect with three different Metra Rail lines all of which running primarily east and west it would also connect with numerous CTA bus lines.
The benefits to building this line on Western Avenue are as follows
Western Avenue is the longest street in Chicago and is a major connecting north-south thoroughfare. It is used so much it has a lot of traffic congestion, especially during rush hour. The proposed rail line would connect heavily populated neighborhoods throughout the city. It would be near a lot of commercial businesses and industrial zones. It would also have stops near the Illinois Medical District, allowing easier access to the numerous hospitals.
The city is also in need of a secondary north-south transit option besides the CTA red line. For Chicagoans to move in between northern and southern neighborhoods using the CTA Rail lines they would have to enter the loop and exit back out of the loop, being very time consuming.
A rail line down Western Avenue would shorten north-south commutes within the city and allow people alternative methods for their commute reducing reliance on cars and increasing ridership on both CTA trains and buses.
