The Issue

I've lived in Trussville all my life, watching our youth grow yet unable to fully engage in diverse sporting activities. They have shown immense potential and interest in sand volleyball, a sport that has become increasingly popular nationwide and offers great opportunities for social interaction. But unfortunately, we don't have the facilities to allow them this opportunity. Therefore, this petition urges the Trussville Parks and Recreations Department to build sand volleyball courts.

The benefits of sand volleyball extend beyond physical health, fostering a sense of teamwork and nurturing essential life skills in our young people. Nationally, youth participation in volleyball has grown by about 22% over the past decade, according to the Sports & Fitness Industry Association. By adding sand volleyball courts, Trussville Parks and Recreations can help to stimulate this growth locally and promote youth development actively.

In addition to the benefits of youth development, many adults are interested in the addition of sand courts. Many have to travel 30-45 minutes to Hoover or Pelham to play. With this addition, Trussville would be the only multi-court facility on the east side of Birmingham, appealing to hundreds of people.

Funds invested into our recreational facilities would directly impact the community’s physical health, social interaction and quality of living. They would serve as spaces for community bonding, outdoor events, and youth development programs.

On behalf of Trussville residents and our youth, we call on the Trussville Parks and Recreation Department to consider our proposal. Let's make Trussville an even better place for our youth and adults to grow and interact. Please, sign this petition to voice your support for the construction of sand volleyball courts in our parks. Let's serve up a win for our community!
