The Issue

Every rainy season, the Philippines suffers from severe flooding. Streets are submerged, homes are damaged, and residents are left vulnerable to accidents and illnesses. Despite efforts in the past, our current drainage systems are outdated and insufficient to handle heavy rains—especially with stronger typhoons brought about by climate change.

Flooding is not just an inconvenience—it is a national threat to health, safety, and livelihood. In the past year alone, flooding has caused billions of pesos worth of property damage, disrupted education and work, and exposed families to diseases such as leptospirosis, dengue, and diarrhea.

Other communities and countries that invested in modern, well-maintained drainage systems have seen reduced flooding and improved quality of life. We believe Filipinos deserve the same attention and protection. By addressing this urgent issue, we can:

• Prevent further loss of property, income, and livelihood.

• Protect citizens from flood-related health risks.

• Ensure safer streets for students, workers, and commuters.

• Build a more resilient nation prepared for stronger storms and climate change.

We, the undersigned, call on the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), and all Local Government Units (LGUs) across the Philippines to prioritize the construction, modernization, and maintenance of effective drainage systems nationwide.

Your support matters! By signing this petition, you are raising your voice for safer, healthier, and more sustainable living conditions for every Filipino family.

Flooding will only worsen if we continue to ignore it. Together, we can demand real solutions that will protect our families, homes, and future. The time to act is now—before the next heavy rain puts millions of Filipinos at risk.

Sign today and be part of the change for a flood-resilient Philippines.
