Build an outdoor gym in the Blue Mountains

Build an outdoor gym in the Blue Mountains
The issue
The Blue Mountains, just west of Sydney does not have a single complete outdoor gym. For the almost 80k residents or many tourists who regularly visit the region there is no way to access basic calisthenics exercise equipment without going to a traditional gym.
We believe pull up bars, dip bars and basic outdoor exercise equipment encourages fitness and health among the community and provides free workout options for those without a gym membership. It also provides an alternative form of outdoors exercise for those who do attend gyms.
We are asking the Blue Mountains City Council (BMCC) to consider installing calisthenics outdoor gyms/exercise stations in Katoomba and Springwood.
Note, there is a small outdoor exercise station in Winmalee, however this consists of dynamic machines, which whilst they are great for elderly people, they do not offer the versatility of traditional static exercise bars. Also, Winmalee is quite far away from the upper mountains region.
The BMCC has done a great job installing children's playgrounds and skate parks throughout the council area but has not given the same effort to outdoor exercise facilities.
The Blue Mountains is home to a large health conscious & active lifestyle community including but not limited to hikers, rock climbers, yoga and gym goers. It is highly likely outdoor exercise equipment would be utilised by the broad community.
Any input is welcomed including specifics about the locations and type of equipment to be installed.
Equipment to be installed:
- Pull up bars of various heights
- Dip bars
Potential Locations:
Katoomba
- Peter Carrol Field
- Kingsford Smith Park
- Lake Catalina
- Katoomba Falls Reserve
- Melrose Park
Springwood:
- Lomatia Park
- Buttenshaw Park
I have previously contacted the BMCC regarding this issue and was informed by the Principal Landscape Architect that the council does not have the resources to install and maintain an outdoor gym at this time. Once we reach at least 100 signatures I will approach the BMCC again and show there is significant community interest. I will also get in contact with several companies which install outdoor gyms and if possible try obtain some quotes for the council to consider.
