The Issue

Growing up, my fondest memories were of the times spent at the Cottonwood Creek Mall with my family and friends. The mall wasn’t just a shopping center; it was the heartbeat of our community. It was a place where we could escape the cold Alaskan winters, walk through various shops, enjoy community events, and just spend quality time together. I even had the joy of participating in a talent show there as a child. These experiences deeply connected us as a community and created lasting bonds.

Today, many residents of Wasilla yearn for a similar experience. The harsh Alaskan winters can be isolating for families and particularly challenging for the elderly. An indoor mall would provide a much-needed space for community interaction, recreation, and support during these long months.

Wasilla is a growing city with a vibrant population, and yet there is a distinct lack of communal indoor spaces where families can gather, spend their days, and enjoy local festivities. A new indoor mall could also spur economic growth by providing local businesses with opportunities to thrive and creating employment opportunities.

The Cottonwood Creek Mall was more than just a retail destination. It was a space that cherished community spirit and fostered connections. By constructing a similar indoor mall in Wasilla, not only will we boost local economy, but we will also nurture and support our community's social fabric.

I urge city planners and local government officials to consider the invaluable benefits of this project. Let’s breathe new life into our city and give Wasilla’s citizens the community space they deserve.

Please join me in signing this petition to voice our collective desire for a new indoor mall in Wasilla. Your support can help bring our vision to life, making Wasilla a warmer, more connected place for all its residents.
