Build an agricultural facility on campus at Sequatchie County High School

Build an agricultural facility on campus at Sequatchie County High School
The Issue
As the animal science teacher and FFA advisor at our school, I have witnessed firsthand the immense benefits both academically and personally that students gain from being involved in agricultural activities. I am also a beef cattle farmer, and I have seen the value and work ethic instilled in young people when they take responsibility for caring for animals and learning the intricacies of farming. Our vision is to create a comprehensive Agricultural Facility on our school campus, and it is time for this vision to become a reality.
Currently, our school board is hesitant, citing budget constraints. Yet, we are only asking for equitable spending across our system as previously funds have been allocated to other projects, such as STEM, Welding, Athletics, Mechatronics, etc. The funds used for this project could equally benefit more than just the agriculture students.
An agricultural facility would be a multi-purpose investment. It would serve not only our hard-working agricultural students but would also provide necessary amenities, such as restrooms and storage. The soccer team could utilize these resources, possibly even setting up concessions. Additionally, 4H members would have a place for practices and competitions. It would offer FFA members spaces for their essential practices, meetings, and events.
Moreover, the facility would open doors for other groups, such as elementary students on farm day activities, and could foster collaborations with academic departments for educational purposes. Specialized sessions, like SPED Equine Therapy, could find a well-suited home in this facility, enriching the offerings available at the school.
The creation of this facility is not a mere luxury; it's a necessity for cultivating responsible, well-rounded leaders. We propose that the school board reallocates or raises the necessary funds to support this project. By doing so, we will foster a culture of learning and responsibility within our students, enriching the school community on a larger scale.
Please help us convey to the school board that this agricultural facility is crucial for our students and community. Your signature is a step towards making our school a model of comprehensive education. Sign the petition today and support the building of an Agricultural Facility on our school campus to ensure a prosperous future for all our students.
