Support the new AFL Stadium - Don't let it get taken away!
The issue
I am starting this petition to raise awareness for the new stadium that is planned to be Built in Hobart, Tasmania. There is a petition against it with roughly 25k signatures, a very small portion of Tasmanians and it could cause grief, but I'd like to see how many people are for a stadium as to opposed. So, I ask you these questions, and give you my opinion.
Do you want one?
Do you not care?
Read this, and sign it if you believe it is beneficial to the Tasmanian Economy as a long term investment in the growth of Tasmania.
As a Tasmanian, I have always wanted to have our own AFL team, we have finally been given this fantastic opportunity but part of the deal is to build a new stadium, Personally I think that's a great idea. A lot of others do not. I believe in people having an opinion, and I am very open with mine.
So in this petition, if you think building a stadium in Tasmania is a good idea and a long-term investment for Tasmania as a state, then please sign away, if not, then that's completely up to you.
I think a stadium in Tasmania is a great start to a new adventure, the rewards will be extremely beneficial for Tasmania as a state, and the tourism, hospitality, and events sectors will start to thrive. We need to make Tasmania a more liveable state, and this can be a good step towards that.
We complain about the Health & Housing crisis, which is completely understandable, but what we don't think about is how in the long term we sustain these sectors. My belief in sustaining these sectors is by making Tasmania more liveable and travel-friendly with Long-term investments, instead of just dumping more and more money into a never-ending pit, it isn't the solution, as much as I wish it were.
Another thing that lacks in Tasmania is professional sport. Have you ever noticed that any Tasmanian who is ever good at something moves to the mainland to pursue their dreams? Why is that do you think? It's because Tasmania can't offer the training/facilities that these people need to strive for greatness. Building a stadium is an extremely huge step for the Tasmanian economy and Future Sporting heroes. It can be the beginning of something great.
Our Health funding currently runs at a cost of 7.2 Million dollars a day, that's what the State Government spends each day on health in Tasmania.
So let's say we scrapped the stadium and the Federal Government takes back the proposed 240 Million they are going to fund, and the AFL take back their 15 Million dollars, that leaves $375 Million in our state Governments Pockets, how many days of health does that cover? Not even 2 Months of Health Care.
How many homes does it build? None, because there aren't enough people working in the industry in Tasmania to build that many homes in a reasonable amount of time. And why is that? That's because no one wants to up and move to Tasmania. It's the same with Health Staff, people don't want to up their lives to move somewhere, where everything simply keeps going backward. So now, we have an opportunity to grow our state, to create something of it, the rewards are endless, we just need to do it right and you will see things like; Employment, Infrastructure, Sporting/Social/Musical/Art events all start to thrive, you will see economic growth in Tasmania, and when the money starts coming in, then it gets put into other areas that do need it the most. This is an investment in Tasmania's future as a whole, not just sport.
People - Look at the bigger picture and think about the long-term rewards and gains instead of trying to fix the world overnight with a cash drop. Because you and I both know, that's not how it works!
