Growing up in Robinson, Illinois, I've always found myself and many of my friends searching for places to skate without being told to leave. Skateboarding is not just a hobby for us—it's a passion, a form of self-expression, and a way to build community. Unfortunately, Robinson doesn't have a dedicated space where we can safely enjoy our passion. The lack of a skatepark pushes skaters to practice in public areas where we are often unwelcome, leading to unnecessary conflicts and misunderstandings.

Robinson deserves a place where young people can gather, grow, and express themselves constructively. A skatepark would provide teenagers and young adults with a healthy outlet for energy, encourage physical fitness, and foster a sense of belonging and community pride.

The benefits are supported by numerous research studies that show skateparks reduce crime rates by keeping young people engaged in positive activities. According to the Tony Hawk Foundation, cities with skateparks have seen significant improvements in youth behavior and community relations. Furthermore, skateboarding is set to debut in the Olympics, which highlights its growing popularity and importance as a sport.

Providing a space not only benefits the skaters but also benefits Robinson by drawing visitors from surrounding areas, boosting local businesses. It would make Robinson not only a safer place but a more vibrant and welcoming community for everyone.
