Establish a Public Library in Helotes, Texas
Helotes is a growing, family-centered community with deep roots and strong pride in its heritage. Yet unlike many smaller Texas towns, Helotes does not have a public library.

Communities such as Leon Valley, Hondo, Bandera, Lakehills, and Castroville have invested in local libraries that serve as educational anchors and gathering spaces. These libraries support early childhood literacy, student achievement, workforce development, digital access, and senior enrichment. They strengthen property values, preserve local history, and create spaces where neighbors connect.

A public library is more than a building with books. It is infrastructure for opportunity.

In today’s world, access to reliable internet, research tools, job search support, and lifelong learning resources is essential. A library provides equitable access to these services for families, students, and seniors. It becomes a place where grandparents bring grandchildren for story time, where students prepare for exams, and where local history is preserved for future generations.

Helotes has unique assets that could make a city library truly special, including our dedicated City Historian and strong community volunteer spirit. Many successful small-town libraries begin modestly and grow over time through phased planning, grant funding, partnerships, and community support.

We are calling on the Mayor and City Council of Helotes to initiate a feasibility study and begin formal discussions about establishing a public library for our city.

This is an investment in literacy, workforce readiness, community connection, and the future of our children and grandchildren.

It is time for Helotes to take the first step.
