The Issue

Presidents Neighborhood exists in a park desert. We are one of several neighborhoods in Evansville without access to a public park. This lack of a communal green space has significant implications for our community, particularly for the children and families who call this area home. Without a designated area to gather, play, and connect with nature, our community members are deprived of essential recreational opportunities that are readily available in other parts of the city.

Parks play a vital role in the health and well-being of a community. They provide a safe environment for children to play, encouraging physical activity that is crucial for their development. Moreover, parks serve as hubs for community engagement, where neighbors can come together, share experiences, and strengthen communal bonds. For families in Presidents Neighborhood, a public park would mean a secure place where parents can take their children, knowing that they are safe and enjoying their time.

Additionally, creating a park in our neighborhood could have economic benefits. Studies show that properties located near parks tend to have higher values. A park could, therefore, attract new residents and businesses, contributing positively to the local economy.

The lack of accessible green space in our area is a pressing issue that cannot continue to be overlooked. We urge the city council and local authorities to prioritize this proposal, ensuring that Presidents Neighborhood is no longer excluded from enjoying the benefits of a public park.

Presidents Neighborhood Association's Green Space Development Committee has identified a piece of property suitable for this project alongside Highway 41 and Taylor and Ravenswood Avenues. The committee is calling on all residents of Evansville, community leaders, and concerned citizens to support this cause. Together, we can make a difference by advocating for the establishment of a park that will enrich the lives of generations to come.

Please sign this petition to show your support for building a park in our neighborhood, where it is desperately needed.
