With the planned  2026-2028 Amtrak service expansion to the Ronkonkoma Branch; We need to take action to maintain a safe and quieter neighborhood. We propose the construction of a permanent noise mitigation wall along this rail track segment adjacent to Easton Street.

Sign this petition so our voices count - We need to be included in the $68.4 Billion MTA/LIRR approved 2025-2029 Capital Program and protect our neighborhood. We need to maintain a safe and quieter environment with an infrastructure that will keep our neighborhood, children, homes and community protected.

A well-designed noise barrier could significantly reduce noise pollution, increase safety and improve the quality of life for all residents in the neighborhood. In addition, it is proven to increase property value. We want to ensure  our community continues to be a safe and welcoming place for children and adults alike.

Our community along the southern border of the Ronkonkoma LIRR double track adjacent to Easton Street is a growing family-oriented area, joined together by our dreams for a peaceful living environment. However, this dream is increasingly challenged by the constant noise from the Ronkonkoma Long Island Railroad (LIRR) track adjacent to our homes. With the completed Ronkonkoma Double Track Project, the noise levels of high speed commuter trains and heavy freight trains that pass through at all hours, have significantly risen, disturbing the tranquility we once enjoyed.  In addition, plans for progress for expansion of Amtrack to the Ronkonkoma Branch starting 2026.

Living close to the Ronkonkoma LIRR Branch, our residents are subjected to the relentless clamor of trains, day and night. The health impacts of such noise pollution are well-documented. According to the World Health Organization, excessive noise exposure has been linked to adverse health effects like sleep disturbances, cardiovascular issues, hearing damage and impaired cognitive function, especially in children. Our health, along with our peace and well-being, is at stake. Let’s also not forget about the easy access to the rails.  This raises many safety concerns for residents and our children as well.

Please join us in advocating for change. Let’s work together to build a noise mitigation wall that serves Easton Street’s residents and enhances our communal living environment. Please sign this petition to make our voices heard and to secure a safer, quieter neighborhood for all.

We call on local government officials, the LIRR, and other stakeholders involved in the expansion projects to prioritize this solution. With the continued Ronkonkoma Station Expansion and current discussions regarding Amtrak service expansion to Ronkonkoma starting in 2026, we request to be part of the 2025-2029 Capital Program. The MTA is currently implementing a $68.4 billion Capital Plan.  With your support, we can have this noise mitigation wall included in this plan to maintain "resilience and sustainability" initiatives for our community and quality of life.

Installing a noise mitigation wall along Easton Street represents a tangible step towards a sustainable balance—protecting both train operations and community health.

Such investment in our community’s health and safety reflects a commitment to long-term quality of life for Long Island’s residents.
