Skateboarding has been a passion of mine for me and my friends. However, my excitement is dampened when I consider the current options available to skaters in San Carlos and surrounding areas. The closest skatepark, located in La Mesa, presents numerous issues that extend beyond just the poor quality of the facilities. One of the most pressing concerns is its proximity to ongoing gang activities, making it an unsafe environment for enthusiasts like myself and our local youth, who deserve a safe place to enjoy skateboarding without fear.

San Carlos, located near the beautiful Lake Murray, is a thriving community that deserves better recreational facilities for its residents. By constructing a new skatepark, we can foster a community spirit, encourage active and healthy lifestyles, and provide a sanctuary where young skaters can hone their skills safely. A well-designed skatepark would not only be an asset for the local skateboarders but could also serve as an inclusive space for recreational activities such as rollerblading and BMX biking, making it a versatile contribution to the community.

Statistics from the Tony Hawk Foundation indicate that skateparks are effective in reducing crime and are among the most used and economically efficient recreational spaces developed for youths. Additionally, a skatepark can serve as a venue for local competitions and community events, infusing energy and vitality into the San Carlos region.

Together, we can identify a suitable location near Lake Murray and design a skatepark that meets the standards of safety and creativity that our youth deserve.
