Build a New Skate Park in Medowie Town Centre

Build a New Skate Park in Medowie Town Centre
The issue
The existing Medowie skate park at 49 Ferodale Road Medowie is in a state of disrepair, unsafe, outdated, and is no longer fit for purpose.
The population of Medowie is around 10,000 people and growing, with new residential land releases in The Bower Estate, The Gardens Estate, Tallowood, and Tall Trees Estate bringing 1,000 additional homes to Medowie. In 2016, more than 30% of the residents in Medowie were aged between 0 and 19 years. The core participation age of action sports skateboarding, scooter riding, inline skating and BMX riding is 5 to 15 years and older.
The last time Port Stephens Council invested in Medowie skate park was five years ago with a $20,000 upgrade. The current state of Medowie skate park shows the following disrepair:
1. pitted, cracked, crumbling, and eroded concrete structures;
2. soil erosion undermining the concrete ramps;
3. black mould on concrete surfaces;
4. an unstable water filling station; and
5. a large gum tree overhanging the main platform.
Port Stephens Council’s recent investments in Anna Bay Skate Park and Tilligerry/Mallabula Skate Park leaves Medowie long overdue for investment in a new skate park.
A new skate park, that is suitable for pre-schoolers, school-age, high school-age and beyond, on the 7.6 hectare site in the Medowie Town Centre, 38 Ferodale Road Medowie, will bring Medowie residents of all ages to socialise and play in the heart of the Medowie Town Centre community.
