Build a Multi-Use Inline Hockey and Skating Rink at Strathaird Reserve

Build a Multi-Use Inline Hockey and Skating Rink at Strathaird Reserve
The issue
The Issue:
Currently, Strathaird Reserve in Narre Warren South is a hub for AFL, cricket, and netball. However, for residents who participate in "active recreation" like inline hockey, roller skating, and scootering, there is nowhere safe or suitable to go.
Young people in our area are forced to skate on bumpy roads or travel over 20 minutes to private indoor rinks. As a 14-year-old resident, I see a huge opportunity to turn under-utilised space into a high-value community asset that keeps teenagers active and off the streets.
The Solution:
We are calling on the City of Casey to install a multi-purpose outdoor inline rink. Inspired by successful facilities in other Melbourne councils (like Hawke's Victory Park), this would include:
• A smooth, durable, flat surface (concrete or modular tiles).
• Low-profile rebound boards to keep play safe and contained.
• Fixed goals for hockey and soccer.
• Multi-use markings so it can be used for skating, scootering, and casual ball sports.
Why it Matters:
1. Youth Engagement: It provides a free, safe space for teenagers who don't play traditional club sports.
2. Health & Fitness: Skating and hockey are high-cardio activities that promote coordination and mental health.
3. Community Hub: A rink like this becomes a meeting point for local families and promotes a vibrant, active neighborhood.
Please sign this petition to show the City of Casey that Narre Warren South wants and needs a modern space for wheeled sports!
Currently, young skaters in Narre South have limited options and often resort to skating on streets or in unsafe areas due to the absence of a designated skate park. This can lead to potential injuries, unsafe traffic interactions, and other safety concerns. We need to act now to prevent these avoidable risks and foster a supportive community space.
A dedicated skate park will serve as a sanctuary for skaters of all levels, allowing them to practice safely and build camaraderie. Such a venue would not only cater to aspiring skaters but would also increase community engagement, promote physical activity, and provide a positive outlet for creative expression.
Local government and community leaders have the power to transform this vision into reality. By allocating a portion of community development funds or seeking a public-private partnership for the construction of a safe, well-designed skate park, we can enrich our community’s infrastructure and enhance the quality of life for our youth.
Statistics show that communities with adequate recreational facilities experience lower youth crime rates and higher overall wellbeing. Let’s take this data to heart and make a lasting investment in the future of our children.
Join us in urging our decision-makers to prioritize the creation of a dedicated skating area in Narre South. Sign this petition to help turn the wheels of change and give our youth the safe, dedicated space they deserve to skate and thrive.
