The Issue

My journey as a parent began with a familiar sense of excitement and anticipation when my child first started kindergarten at the Saint Clair Area School District. Like any parent, I hope for a bright and promising future for my child, one that includes access to quality education and opportunities for personal growth. However, our community faces a significant challenge that threatens this vision: the absence of a high school within our district.

Saint Clair Area School District, located in the heart of our vibrant community, currently serves elementary and middle school students. But when it comes time for our children to continue their education in high school, they face the daunting task of enrolling in schools outside our community, leading to lengthy commutes, disconnection from their local peers, and decreased involvement in community activities. This greatly impacts their educational experience and sense of belonging.

According to the National Center for Education Statistics, students who attend schools within their own communities have higher rates of participation in extracurricular activities, which is crucial for their overall development. Moreover, a high school within the community can reduce the dropout rates significantly, as students can access a more supportive and familiar environment. Without a high school in our district, our children are missing out on these critical benefits.

Building a high school within the Saint Clair Area School District will not only address these immediate educational needs but will also strengthen our community in the long run. It will encourage families to settle in the area, thereby boosting the local economy, and will lay a strong educational foundation that prepares our students to succeed in higher education and beyond.

We propose collaborating with local government officials, educational authorities, and community leaders to explore feasible plans for constructing a high school that meets the needs of our growing student population. By securing state and federal funding, along with private investments, we can turn this vision into reality.

The future of our children and our community depends on immediate action. Let us unite in our efforts to advocate for a high school that will provide every student at Saint Clair Area School District with the opportunity to thrive academically and socially.

Please join me in signing this petition to urge the authorities to take the necessary steps to build a high school for our students. Together, we can make a lasting difference.
