Build a free, modern skatepark for Dunedin

The Issue

Dunedin is known for its outdoor lifestyle, walkable downtown, and strong sense of community — yet local skateboarders and youth lack access to a safe, modern place to skate.

Many residents regularly see young skaters practicing along Main Street plazas and public areas, not out of disrespect, but because there are few accessible alternatives nearby.

While Dunedin does have a skatepark off MLK Jr. Avenue, it was built nearly 20 years ago and is widely considered outdated, poorly maintained, limited in hours, and requires paid admission — creating barriers for many young people. As a result, many local skaters no longer use it.

We are calling on the City of Dunedin to invest in a free, publicly accessible concrete skatepark located within or near the downtown/Main Street area.

A modern skatepark would:

  • Provide a safe recreational space for youth and families
  • Reduce skating in business plazas and pedestrian areas
  • Promote physical activity and positive community engagement
  • Support Dunedin’s active, inclusive culture
  • Attract visitors and strengthen local community life
  • Community-requested features include free admission, durable concrete design, lighting for evening use, water fountains, restrooms, and appropriate safety monitoring.

Dunedin continues to grow — our recreational spaces should grow with it.

Sign this petition to support a safe, modern skatepark for our community.
