Build a footpath on Wentworth Street, Caringbah South

Build a footpath on Wentworth Street, Caringbah South
The issue
To the Sutherland Shire Council,
We, the undersigned residents and community members of Caringbah South, urgently request the construction of a safe and continuous footpath along Wentworth Street. This road has become increasingly hazardous for pedestrians, and immediate action is needed to protect the many people who rely on it every day.
Wentworth Street is a steep, curved hill, and its current lack of pedestrian infrastructure presents a significant safety risk. Vehicles travelling up the hill have limited visibility of people walking near the crest, creating a dangerous scenario where drivers may not see pedestrians until it is too late.
The need for a footpath is further amplified by the high volume of daily pedestrian traffic. With Lilli Pilli local shops situated at the top of the street, many residents—including families, school-age children, and elderly community members—use this route regularly to access essential services. Without a proper footpath, they are forced to walk along the road edge, often only centimetres from moving vehicles. This situation is unsafe, unsustainable, and unacceptable for a growing residential community.
A dedicated footpath would not only reduce the risk of accidents but also encourage active transport, support local businesses, and enhance the overall livability of our neighbourhood. Safe pedestrian access is a basic expectation in a modern community, and Wentworth Street should be no exception.
We respectfully urge the Council to prioritise and approve the construction of a footpath on Wentworth Street as a matter of public safety and community wellbeing. Taking this step now will help prevent future accidents and ensure that our residents can move about safely and confidently.
