Build a Ferry Crossing from the South West of England to Wales to improve accessibility

The Issue

When you take into consideration how cut off Cornwall is from the rest of England - barely any live music or shows, lack of public transport, lack of investment - introducing a ferry crossing from Ilfracombe to Swansea (or Cardiff to Weston-Super-Mare), or any other viable route, is not just an appeal for convenience but a necessary measure to bring tourism, culture and accessibility to those who are unable to endure long driving distances.

This ferry would not only make travel faster and easier for many, but it also carries the potential to significantly boost the economy through tourism between Wales and Cornwall & Devon. If you were to drive from Redruth to Swansea it currently takes around 4 and a half hours (on a good day with no traffic, accidents, road closures etc . . ), this could be dramatically reduced and make the journey much more appealing.

Furthermore, the increased influx of tourists to both regions would have considerable economic benefits. In 2019, Wales saw a total of 10.4 million overnight trips from Great Britain residents. And the southwest of England, hosting a number of renowned tourists' spots, attracted upwards of 20.95 million domestic tourists. The instatement of these ferry crossings could increase these numbers, amplifying the local economies and enriching the national tourism sector.

With this in mind, our call to action is a plea for better accessibility and greater economic prosperity. We request that the local councils and the UK Government consider the good this will bring and work together to fund and build the ferry crossings. Please sign this petition to bring a positive change to our communities.
