For decades, skateboarding has been a growing and thriving culture bringing communities together. The physical and mental health benefits of skateboarding are often overlooked. In Claiborne County, the youth faces unique problems as opposed to children and teens in larger communities and cities. Living in a rural area can make hanging out with friends challenging, often leading to trespassing and loitering. There isn't a plethora of entertainment here for local youth. This can also lead to a serious problem of boredom. When a youth is posed with isolation and boredom, this can create a scenario where they will do anything to feel something. It unfortunately can lead to drug use. The younger generation also faces a problem with inactivity. Many children have sat behind screens for entertainment. This is detrimental to health. A skatepark could help both of these issues. A skatepark provides a place for the youth to come together and challenge themselves and each other. This would strengthen our community and only make us stronger in the future. 

  A skatepark isn't just for the youth! Many adults grew up seeing the skateboarding culture on the tv and in video games, but never had a chance to skate due to living in rural areas like Claiborne County. A skatepark would also provide a place for adults to challenge themselves physically and make friends.
