Build a community aquatic center for Johns Creek

Build a community aquatic center for Johns Creek
The Issue
Our city is in dire need of a community aquatic center that serves as a hub for family-friendly activities and promotes a healthy lifestyle among citizens of all ages. Adding an indoor, modern aquatic facility would complement the city’s existing recreational assets while addressing a significant unmet need within our community. An indoor public aquatic facility would deliver lasting benefits to Johns Creek—socially, economically, and from a public health perspective. Aquatic activities promote physical fitness, water safety, and lifelong wellness, while also serving as inclusive gathering spaces that strengthen community connections. As low-impact sports, swimming and diving support cardiovascular health, coordination, and mental well-being for youth, adults, and seniors alike.
Currently, public school competitive divers must travel at least 40 minutes to locations such as Cumming, Marist, or Georgia Tech for practices, while competitive swimmers often rely on costly and impractical rentals at private facilities. This places a financial and logistical burden on families and schools and limits participation opportunities for students within our own city. An indoor competition-ready pool and diving well would enable Johns Creek to better support local swim and dive teams, school programs, and regional competitions. Our city boasts the most competitive high school swim team that has won the Fulton County swim meet 10 years in a row, and the boys have won at state since 2019.
In addition, hosting meets and training events would attract visitors to Johns Creek, generating economic activity for local businesses such as restaurants, hotels, and retail establishments. From a return-on-investment perspective, competition aquatic facilities are proven to be economic drivers.
This petition urges Mayor Bradberry and city council members and local authorities to prioritize and allocate funding for the development of a community aquatic center. Let's come together as a community to advocate for this much-needed facility. Sign this petition to make a splash in our city’s future, promoting health, education, and community spirit. Together, we can create a lasting legacy for current and future generations.
