The Issue

I live in Chepstow, a quaint town nestled on the banks of the River Severn. Known for its historic charm and picturesque landscapes, Chepstow has unfortunately become synonymous with congestion and pollution. Each day, my family and I endure the consequences of over congestion; traffic snarls and incessant noise disrupt our peace, while diesel fumes and vehicle emissions pollute the air we breathe. As a mother, my foremost concern is the health and well-being of my children. Poor air quality poses significant health risks, jeopardising their present and future.

The chief contributor to this ordeal is the heavy volume of traffic heading towards the current Severn bridge. This situation is exacerbated by the fact that the main road passes directly through Chepstow, leading to bottlenecks and further compounding air pollution. Every rush hour becomes a formidable challenge as hundreds of vehicles crawl through our narrow streets.

The solution is clear and actionable: a new bypass. By directing traffic away from Chepstow, not only would we alleviate the daily congestion, but we would also significantly reduce the level of air pollution affecting our community. This infrastructure development would safeguard the health of Chepstow’s residents while enhancing the quality of life in our cherished town.

Local and national governments must recognise the urgent necessity for this development. Investing in a strategic bypass represents an investment in public health, environmental protection, and regional growth. Better traffic conditions would actually boost local economies and improve air quality significantly. This effort requires collaboration between local councils, national transport authorities, and environmental agencies to bring forth a sustainable solution.

Please join me in urging our local and national governments to prioritise the creation of a new bypass. Our children's health and our community's future depend on taking decisive action now. Your signature on this petition can drive the momentum needed to ignite change and relieve Chepstow from the burdens of congestion and pollution.
