Growing up, our local state park on Long Island Brentwood, NY, served as a childhood home to many, including myself. My sister and I learned to play soccer in this park when i was just five years old. Over the years, I've been thrilled to see the park continually improve and adapt to the needs of the community, with the addition of more turf grass for soccer, a children's playground, and not one, but two baseball fields. 

However, there is still one aspect that our local park has overlooked. The park has 8 soccer fields, giving plenty of space for those fans of the sport. However, for people like me who love to play basketball, over the years, no basketball court is upsetting. 

According to the Physical Activity Council's report, basketball is the third most popular team sport in the United States. Yet, in our own local state park, the facilities provided do not reflect this popularity. The addition of a basketball court will not only cater to the existing basketball lovers in the community but also encourage others like the younger generation, to explore and develop an interest in this popular sport.

Let's make our park a space that caters to the interests of all its visitors. Let us make a collective effort to bring this much-needed change. This is NOT just for me, but for all basketball enthusiasts out there in Brentwood!
