Matthew Schulz started this petition to Buena Vista University

On Friday, March 6th, 2020, Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa announced the proposed elimination of 5 academic programs; this includes all areas of the performing arts, Music Education, Music Performance, Music Production, and Theatre and Media Performance, as well as Chemistry. By choosing to cut these academic programs, Buena Vista University not only sends the message that Iowa does not care about the performing arts and thus there is no hope for enrollment in these areas, but equally devastating, a message that those who have trained, studied or participated in these areas at BVU are no longer of importance to the university, its past, present, or future.

If Buena Vista Univesity chooses to follow through on their proposed plan of cutting the performing arts, they will be eliminating their campus life force and thus pulling the plug on any hope of the Storm Lake campus's survival. This decision will not only negatively affect the longevity of the university but set into motion a damaging ripple effect onto the town of Storm Lake. The performing arts are not an "extra-curricular" and should not be treated as such. They are vital to the institution's survival.

By signing the petition, you pledge to cease all present and future donations to Buena Vista University.
