After doing a research project about animal abuse, I was thinking about how I could make a change. I wanted to start some sort of petition to put a stop to the constant abuse that happens at aquariums, and theme parks such as SeaWorld. SeaWorld continues to imprison innocent animals, and use them to make a profit. A famous orca who was stuck in captivity here was named Tilikum. He stayed in captivity for around 30 years, and was forced into breeding programs. Now, his calves are forced to live in captivity just like he was. They shouldn’t have to suffer just like he did. Several images have revealed SeaWorld trainers standing on orcas during shows. There was a well known photo that showed a baby orca’s head being pushed underwater due to someone standing on her. Not only orcas, but dolphins, whales, turtles, walrus’, and a series of animals are held and abused here. These animals are forced to perform unnecessary tricks, and live in small concrete enclosures that are the equivalent to bathtubs for them. They are often in such distress that they gnaw their teeth to the pulp, they obtain skin problems, and orcas often have dorsal fin collapse. After Tilikum died, they decided to put get rid of attractions. They ended the shows, but still have “Dine With Orcas,” “Orca Encounter,” and “Dolphin Encounter,” which allows you to touch dolphins. Being able to touch these animals gives them stress, and makes them uncomfortable. Even if a good amount of abuse has stopped, it took decades to stop, and the damage they already caused will never be forgotten. Disbanding this abusive place would free trapped animals that are in need of proper care and love. We all must work together to protect our wildlife, and act now to keep extinction from possibly occurring.
