As a Korean, I think BTS should have a military exemption. This could allow highly influential popular artists to be added to the current exemption system (as of now it's athletes, dancers, and classical musicians who win significant awards.)

I think BTS qualifies for an exemption based on their multi-billion dollar impact and their unique international achievements.

ACHIEVEMENTS:

-First Korean group to deliver speech at UN conference

- UN "Global Sustainable Future Leaders"

-Youngest recipient of Order of Cultural Merit

-Selected as Time "100 Most Influential People in 2019"

-22% increase in Hallyu Wave due to BTS

ECONOMIC EFFECTS:

-Economic effect of $4.9 billion, up to $50 billion by 2023

- 800,000 tourists come to Korea per year because of BTS

- Average of $1.11 billion in consumer goods exports

- Highest grossing world tour in May 2019 ($50 million)

-BTS x Hyundai Palisade promotion generated $504 million

-BTS x UNICEF campaign raised over $1.4 billion

- BTS World game sales over $1.7 million

- BTS 5th Muster "Magic Shop" concerts had economic effect of over $400 million

- BTS effect on consumer goods: Clothing = $2.026 billion, Cosmetics = $2.8 billion, food = $3.96 billion.

OTHER REASONS:

1. Military exemption allows BTS to stay during the highest point in their career and grow even more successful. It's not logical to start splitting up during their prime.
2. Considering BTS’ economic worth, the economy could be negatively affected if they enlist.
3. Exemption allows the oldest members to travel without restrictions when they tour or go to overseas events.
4. Personally, I feel what they do in their career has a stronger impact than 2 years of military service. This is because they are contributing to the nation outside of their music.
