Protect the statue of Sir John A. MacDonald in Kingston, ON.

Protect the statue of Sir John A. MacDonald in Kingston, ON.
The Issue
Signatories of this petition believe there are better, more practical ways to work towards reconciliation than removing the likenesses of the most important historical figures in Canadian history. Do not let those who wish to rewrite our national history tear down the statue of a man who was for so long and remains the pride of Kingston and Canada. Sign this petition and protect our heritage.
Sir John A. Macdonald was a father of Confederation and the first Prime Minister of Canada. He united the country that would become Canada with the construction of the transcontinental railroad and established Canada as a beacon of prosperity very much independent from its southern neighbour.
While it is fashionable today to question some of his 19th century beliefs and actions, it is undeniable that he helped make Canada the nation it is today: a leader in freedom, standard of living, and stability, a country of which Canadians have the right to be proud.
