Name the new Homer Hanna high school gym after The Legendary Coach Don Denson

Here at Hanna we are ecstatic with the building of a brand new gymnasium. The new gym will bring so much to our campus and our community. We are so excited that Hanna has been given this honor of a new gym. It is going to be a facility like no other, and our athletes are excited for that. We have not asked for anything extra or special when it comes to building of the facility as we understand there are professionals that are in charge of that. One thing we would love here at Hanna, and will make the community so happy, will be the naming of the Gymnasium or the court after someone very special. That person is former Head Boys Basketball Coach for over 35 years here at Hanna Don Denson.
I can go on and on about his accomplishments here at Hanna with over 700 victories, countless district championships, and deep playoff runs. But the biggest impact he has had is still being felt in this community, and that’s his impact on his former athletes. Playing for Coach Denson was an honor for hundreds of Brownsville athletes. His leadership skills were contagious and have had a lasting impact on hundreds, if not thousands. Just in Brownsville alone there are 5 head coaches of varsity programs that played for Denson. His “coaching tree” is not only felt at High School Varsity level, but throughout our sub varsity, middle school, and elementary programs there are former Denson athletes in leadership roles. Don Denson left a lasting impact on all his former athletes, and those same traditions and life lessons are being passed along to our current BISD athletes. I can’t think of a former coach who is more deserving of this honor than Don Denson. As coaches at Hanna, we are stopped about a dozen times throughout the season and are asked about Denson. That is the type of leader and figure in the community he was for so long. This honor will make so many people in our community so very happy.
Thank you for your attention in this matter, and hopefully you consider our request to have our new gymnasium named after the legendary Don Denson. He gave so much to our community, and his leadership is still being felt all throughout our district, we strongly believe he deserves this honor.
