Allow My 67 Year Old, International Baccalaureate European History Teacher Teach From Home
Why this petition matters
Hi, my name is Sayeed Ali and I am a senior who attends Miramar High School and is coming to close to completing the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. As this school year has been difficult for students through remote learning, it has been even more difficult on teachers. Especially my European History teacher, who is 67 years old, faces health problems, and also tends for her 90 year old aunt who lives with her. Despite all of these challenges, our teacher (Dr. Rosenkranz) hosts our Microsoft Team's lecture sessions with great passion and commitment towards helping all of her students understand the material that is necessary for our IB examinations at the end of the school year. As all teachers were requested by the Broward County School District to return back to campus in order to teach, our history teacher remained at home and gave a request to the school board district asking if she could teach her students from home due to the circumstances she currently faces. After two weeks, the school district replied and denied her request to continue to teach from her home. Her two options were to return to school on November 3rd or to take an unpaid leave. As our teacher doesn't feel comfortable going back to school due her age, health, and responsibility of taking care of her aunt, our teacher has no choice but to go on leave. As this hurts our teacher greatly as she is very passionate regarding her career of teaching European History, it also hurts us, her students, as well. In May, all IB seniors are required to take the IB final examinations which determines if we receive the IB diploma. If a student were to obtain this diploma, they would gain a 100% scholarship to any public school in Florida. Without a European History teacher, our chances of obtaining the diploma are slimmer and our chances of getting into our desired college is even more fragile. However, the most important aspect of this situation is that we want to allow our History teacher to continue to do what she loves on a daily basis and not allow the current circumstances dictate what she can and cannot do. On behalf of the Miramar High School IB 2021 Class, we ask if you could please sign this petition to allow our teacher to continue to help, guide, and assist us with our education. Thank you.
