Brookline's Juvenile Court Cases Need to be Heard in Brookline
We join with Brookline PAX in strong support of the much appreciated letters by Brookline Select Board member Bernard Greene, Norfolk County District Attorney Michael Morrissey, and Brookline Police Chief Mark Morgan, each of whom strongly objected to moving Brookline’s Juvenile Court cases -- not only delinquency but also heart-wrenching care and protection cases -- to Dedham.
Without repeating all their valid reasons, we emphasize especially the huge racial, social, and economic justice inequities/injustices that are inevitable due to both the geographical anomaly of the eight mile distance from Brookline to Dedham, and the lack of almost any, let alone easy, public transportation.
We urge the Brookline Select Board and School Committee to promptly coordinate a campaign, with our entire five-person statehouse delegation, to stop this travesty. Courts are not only for justice, but also for people; both will be harmed by this proposal.
