Broadcast the 9/11 Memorial Name Reading in All States
The Issue
My name is Taylor Faith Krigsman. I am 21 years old, and my family just moved from New York to Florida in July 2015. Up until our move, I had lived in the same small town 90 minutes north of New York City for my entire life.
I was in third grade when America was changed forever as the Twin Towers fell on 9/11/2001. In New York, every 9/11 anniversary, all daily programming was interrupted to broadcast the reading of the names of the victims taken on 9/11/2001. It was something that my mother watched every year, and that I watched whenever school did not prevent me from sitting in front of the television. We lost no family or friends that day, but we knew people who did. The 'Five' were five people who came from my hometown in NY. They made the ultimate sacrifice that day when as fire fighters, a Battalion Chief, and a Lieutenant, they went to Ground Zero to help, as so many others did as well.
So many people were taken from us on 9/11/2001, and this was a national tragedy. This was not something that only changed the lives of New Yorkers, but the lives of Americans as a whole. Yet here we are, 9/11/2015, and I find myself watching the memorial online because it is not being broadcast here in Florida. Why is the reading of the victims' names not being broadcast in Florida? Is it just my local network neglecting to show this memorial? Is it all over Florida? Is this happening in every state outside of New York?
The memorial for the victims of 9/11/2001 is something that people all over the United States should be able to watch on television. All regular programming should be suspended on the morning of 9/11 each year in order to pay tribute to those whose lives were lost on that tragic day. I want to bring everyone's attention to this fact and hopefully get networks across the country to make a change before 9/11/2016. People all over the United States were impacted by the tragic events of 9/11/2001, and people all over the United States have the right to watch the memorial, and observe the moments of silence, each year.
