BSLBT: Sign For Change

BSLBT: Sign For Change
The Issue
We are asking the British Sign Language Broadcasting Trust to take action on the lack of sign language users in senior roles.
Currently, deaf people and sign language users are employed as freelance executive producers, directors, writers, actors - or in supporting administrative roles. The BSLBT's leadership is staffed mostly by hearing people who do not use British Sign Language or engage with the community.
We believe it is time for change.
The British Sign Language Broadcasting Trust must move with the times, and fall into line with other media organisations and broadcasters serving minorities and minority languages.
Would it be OK for BBC Alba and BBC Cymru Wales to be edited by English speakers?
Would it be OK for the Asian Network to be programmed by white people?
Would it be OK for Gay Times magazine to be edited solely by straight CIS people?
Would it be OK for the Women's Hour Radio Show to be presented by men?
Is it still OK, in this day and age, for the British Sign Language Broadcasting Trust not to be run by sign language users?
We want to see changes at the British Sign Language Broadcasting Trust. We want to see sign language users being given more of a say in a charitable organisation that was set up to serve them, over a decade ago.
