This evening, France formally recognised the State of Palestine. Is it time now for the British Government to do the same. Please read below and add your signature to this urgent petition. 

We, the undersigned, call upon His Majesty's Government to formally and unequivocally recognise the State of Palestine, in line with the principles of international law, justice, and the right of all peoples to self-determination. Palestinians living in Gaza have faced nearly two years of war, starvation, dispossession and death. We need an urgent ceasefire and allow the Palestinians the dignity of rebuilding their homes in their own state. 

The United Kingdom has long supported a two-state solution as the only viable path to a just and lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians. Yet the continued failure to recognise Palestine as a state undermines this vision and perpetuates the status quo of occupation, displacement, and disenfranchisement.

Over 140 countries have already recognised the State of Palestine. Recent recognitions by European nations—including France, Ireland, Norway, and Spain—signal growing international consensus on the urgent need for political action to support Palestinian sovereignty and dignity.

Recognition is not a reward; it is a necessary affirmation of the Palestinian people’s legitimate right to statehood and self-governance. It would help restore balance to negotiations, strengthen the rules-based international order, and reaffirm the UK’s historic and moral responsibilities in the region.

We therefore respectfully urge the British Government to:

Officially recognise the State of Palestine alongside the State of Israel, based on pre-1967 borders.
Work actively within the United Nations and other international forums to advance Palestinian statehood.
Reaffirm its commitment to a peaceful, negotiated resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The time for symbolic support has passed. Meaningful action is required.

Recognising Palestine is a vital step toward peace, justice, and lasting security for all peoples in the region.
