Special Debate to the British Government on Bapu Surat Singh, his hunger strike and release of Political prisoners who are not being released despite serving their sentences
The Issue
Recognize Surat Singh Khalsa & His Peaceful Struggle for Human Rights. Surat Singh Khalsa, an 82 year old Sikh activist has been on hunger-strike in Punjab, India since January 16th 2015 to demand the release of political prisoners.
Khalsa has been arrested and force-fed three times for exercising his right to peacefully protest. His hunger-strike has inspired thousands around the globe to demonstrate in support. Canadian and British Parliament members and political parties have formally recognized him.
We are urging the UK Government to hold a special debate and make appropriate representation with the Indian Authorities on the protection of human rights and to recognize Bapu Surat Singh for his peaceful and humanitarian struggle.
