Ban the Use of MMA Monomer in the United Kingdom Beauty Industry

The Issue

Ban the use of Methyl Methacyrlate (MMA) in the United Kingdom Beauty Industry...

What is MMA?

MMA or Methyl Methacyrlate, is primarily used in Dental practices to make dentures or dental implants which means it's put into the body to fix bones or to make dental implants and dentures, this is surely the reason to avoid salons that use this product, it is too strong for uses on natural nails, think of the effects it would have on the natural nail.

Why should it be banned in the United Kingdom Beauty Industry??

MMA nails are incredibly tough and are almost impossible to take off with Acetone alone, the chemicals in the Methyl Methacyrlate weaken the nail bed causing all sorts of nail issues and problems such as yellowing nails.

Because MMA Monomer is cheap salons buy this to use on acrylic nails, salons offer MMA nails as they are quick and last a while, MMA is that strong it takes hours of filing and soaking in acetone before they come off and when they do come off your nails are badly damaged.

Salons offer MMA nails because they bond to the nail quicker but because of the chemicals in the MMA your nails have to be violently thinned out in order for the MMA to stay on the nail as it won't adhere to the natural nail due to the oils on the nail bed.

MMA has been declared poisonous in The States and has been banned in 30 of those states but is still widely used in the Beauty Industry.

Are there any health risks behind MMA?

Yes, there are health risks behind using MMA, the common ones are;

  • Irritated eyes
  • Trembling hands
  • Soreness or burning in the sinuses
  • Dizzy spells
  • Feeling faint
  • Nausea
  • Drowsiness

Are there any health risks through prolonged uses?

Yes again there are health risks through prolong uses;

  • Dermititus
  • Red Rashes
  • Chapped skin
  • Swelling

I hope this is enough to convince yourself to sign this petition and get MMA banned in the United Kingdom Beauty Industry

Thank you.
