Boxing decisions, the winner needs to win. Overhaul of the British Boxing Board of Control
The Issue
I am a life long Boxing fan and supporter, it’s a brilliant sport that can change lives and entertain on mass.
For far too long we have accepted poor decisions, with the British Boxing Board of Control seeming to be self governed and not answerable to their licensees, yet all too happy to accept the sanction fees.
Last night I witnessed what a feel was the worst decision I have seen in British Boxing, Josh Taylor was awarded the decision in what was quite clearly a Jack Catterall win. This was for a historic undisputed title fight, the like never before contested in Britain, with a result that has ruined Jack Catterall career trajectory.
Looking solely at Jack Catterall, this is an opportunity he will likely never get again, to create his legacy in the sport, and has clearly diminished his potential earnings.
Beyond that it has tarnished a whole sport, how do you expect the average fan to understand this? Why should young fighters bother to start out in the first place? So many questions, so much damage, such little sense.
At what point does the BBBOC have to answer for this? They claim there is no corruption, as though incompetence at this level is any better? Who knows which it is, but one thing is clear, something needs to change.
I implore any boxing fans to sign this petition, and ex-fighters, journalists, promoters and other figure heads to push this message and make a change. Everyone on last nights broadcast felt this was the wrong decision, show that now and make a stand.
To the international boxing bodies, WBC, WBO, WBA, IBF, exert some pressure, do you want your championships decided in this way?
BBBOC, hang your heads in shame for allowing this to go on, use that shame as fuel to fix your problems and overhaul the governance of this great sport.
