Dear all,
Some of you will have seen the news that building owner Landrose, pulled their planning application for a 42-bed HMO (house of multiple occupancy), less than 48hrs before it was due to go before Bristol City Council’s development control committee meeting, at City Hall on Wednesday.
Planning officers were recommending that the committee refuse permission citing a shortage of parking, whilst also taking into account the 921 lodged objections. The Planning Officer’s report also highlighted a number of other issues with the application, including an objection in principle lodged by Avon and Somerset Police.
We are pleased to see the application by Landrose withdrawn. It failed to garner support locally and our concerns that this would be an unwelcome addition to the high street were shared by Council Planning Officers with their recommendation for refusal.
Our plans to open the cinema and food hall are championed locally and nationally and our discussions with financial partners have been very encouraging.
St George’s Hall is the largest venue on the local high street and has been used by the community in one way or another for over 100 years. Let's really value buildings and businesses like these that will bring life to the local high street, and surrounding neighbourhoods, and encourage development of community assets in a way that benefits everyone.
We are ready to move forward with our vision for a three-screen cinema and food hall, run by a community interest company, with affordable homes that serve the needs of the community.
We’re excited to be able to focus on the positives of our plans again. We’ve started sharing some of our supporters' voices on social media and you’ll see much more of that from now on. You’ll see reminders of the building’s history and new visuals of how we propose to bring St George’s Hall back to life, for all of us.
Everyone we speak to sees the value in our plan, socially and commercially.
We hope that now, Landrose are open to talks so we can buy the building and realise this amazing opportunity for the people of Redfield and East Bristol.
