BCC- replace the trees for our future !

BCC- replace the trees for our future !
The Issue
Bristol has grown massively over recent years and the air pollution in some areas is so bad that the local council are looking to introduce a total ban on diesel cars. We all know that vegetation and trees not only soften an urban landscape, they are also important to improve air quality and act as a carbon bank.
What you might not know however, is that since 2012 it has been Bristol City Council policy not to replace damaged and diseased trees across the city. Next time you take a walk through Bristol’s leafy streets, have a look at all the tree stumps that have been left with no replacement ! Over time, this means that Bristol’s tree laden streets will be no more!
Attached is a map of trees which include locations where diseased trees have been removed but not replaced. The numbers are growing.
Just as we wouldn’t expect to have to pay extra to fill the new potholes as already pay our taxes, we shouldn’t have to replace these out of our own pockets!
So, time for change! we need to reverse this policy and not just look to replace the removed trees but to actively locate new venues for urban tree planting and schemes which would not only soften the urban landscape but also improve air quality for all and to keep our city green for future generations.
Please sign and forward to help achieve this.
